Key skills/ experience:
Michael has over 25 years experience of project management and consultancy for major oil companies in blue ribbon projects throughout the world. He also takes a keen interest in renewable energy and carbon management. His key skills areas are risk management, strategic planning, policy development, value engineering, consultation and permits and consents. He started his career with BP as a drilling engineer in the North Sea and has worked on oil and gas and renewable energy projects around the world, including Shell’s Camisea project in Peru and the Kashagan oil development in Kazakstan. In this latter role he was part of the management team responsible for the production of first oil from the giant Kashagan field in Kazakhstan (300k bpd), front end engineering of offshore production facilities, pipelines and onshore processing plant. Identification and management of the sustainable development threats and opportunities & provision of strategic HSE advice to the Kashagan project manager. Latterly he has been focusing on shale gas environmental and social risk management in Europe, alongside his long-standing engagement with renewable energy in Orkney where he is Chair of the Orkney Renewable Energy Trust. He has worked on numerous offshore wind projects, together wit Metco Ltd and the European Marine Energy Centre.
