Key skills/ experience:
Carolyn was Global Community Advisor for Rio Tinto from 1999-2009. Prior to this, she worked in international and community development with clients that included USAID, the World Bank/IFC and various NGOs. She is an anthropologist with over 25 years of experience in combining social science with business acumen to deliver social development programs.
She brings corporate experience in social risk and impact assessment, stakeholder engagement, closure planning, design, implementation and management of resettlement programmes; and community development. She has extensive experience in the identification, assessment and management of community risks relative to major project investments. This includes project scoping, ESIA implementation, public consultation and engagement, emergency response plans, cultural heritage plans, and community investment programmes. She also has strong experience in corporate due diligence, focusing on community, social and safety risks for major extractive businesses. She is also has specialist experience in the identification and assessment of indigenous and cultural heritage implications in project development and on-going operations.
